Proverbs Three: Yada, Yada,Yada.

I can be a bit of a nerd. I'm not ashamed to admit that at all. Sometimes my nerdyness ends up being just a tiny bit cool. This, I think, is one of those times. This morning I've been reading through and studying Proverbs 3. I landed on Proverbs 3:6 as my verse to share with you today. At first because the idea of Him directing my paths sure seemed comforting.
Often when I'm studying the scriptures I like to grab my Strong's Concordance to dig deeper into the meanings of the words in the Bible. For those of you not familiar with a concordance it is a book that has the original Hebrew and Greek words with their definitions.
First I thought I'd like to know what is meant by paths- what exactly is He going to direct for me. I found that He will direct the course that I follow on a journey between departure and arrival in terms of small units, almost step by step. So, my sanctification. He will direct the steps I take from leaving sin and daily becoming more like Jesus. So that end part of the scripture is pretty awesome, I'm human, I like to see what He is planning to do.
The first part of that verse though is telling me I need to do something before that second part is able to happen. I looked up the word "ways" first. Basically it's telling us to acknowledge him with our mode of action, our attitudes. Ok. I can try that too. Seems fairly straightforward.

But what exactly is meant by acknowledge? I tend to think of that word as an admittance that I saw something. Like, I acknowledge receiving an email. I don't think of it being very in depth, more of a passing agreement. When I got into the definition in my concordance it was definitely more involved than that. This verse wants me to know Him by observing and reflecting on His character and to know Him by experiencing Him. I can't do that in passing. This isn't a flippant acknowledgment. This is a deep innermost knowing of Him. Changes my actions a bit. It opens my eyes quite a bit more as to how my step by step path will be directed by Him.

But here's the really fun part of this study. That word that means to know Him by observing and reflecting and experiencing Him. The word is Yada.

Do you know how often in my life that I have either heard someone say or said myself "Yada,Yada,Yada."
As in : " the actual words here aren't important."

It's so incredible when the Word flips your thoughts upside down. That phrase almost couldn't be more opposite of its actual meaning. For the rest of my life anytime I hear that phrase it's going to make me smile- because I will be reminded to acknowledge Him, acknowledge Him, acknowledge Him.

Let's remember to go through our day today and

Yada Yada Yada!
